Sewer System Management

Most of the jurisdictions in the District are currently expanding or are planning to expand their sewer systems to accommodate future growth. A commensurate level of effort needs to be spent inspecting and maintaining the existing collection system infrastructure, so that the complete system will perform properly.

It is recommended that all system operators within the District establish wastewater collection system inspection and maintenance programs. These programs should consist of several minimum elements designed to assure compliance with the requirements of the NPDES Permit Program. The minimum required elements of a sewer system inspection and maintenance program include a sewer system survey, inventory, and mapping, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), flow and rainfall monitoring, hydraulic modeling, capacity certification, sewer system inspection, sewer system maintenance, grease management, overflow response, sewer system inspection and maintenance training and sewer system rehabilitation.
