(ATLANTA - August 22, 2006) The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District has developed a “Do It Yourself Household Water Assessment” to help homeowners understand how much water they use, identify leaks and show ways to reduce overall water use. The user-friendly assessment will help homeowners conserve water and save money at the same time!
The Household Water Assessment includes a comprehensive worksheet to guide homeowners through five easy steps of the assessment: 1) analyzing how much water they use; 2) detecting leaks; 3) checking for and using water-efficient appliances; 4) outdoor water use; and 5) changing their water ways. The guide also helps homeowners determine how efficient their water use is compared to the average resident of North Georgia.
Residential water use accounts 55 percent of water use in metro Atlanta, and inefficient household water use strains the region’s limited water supplies. Household Water Assessments were identified in the District’s Water Supply and Water Conservation Management Plan as one of the key water conservation measures necessary to meet the region’s 2030 water demand.
The “Do It Yourself Household Water Assessment” can be downloaded from the District Web site at www.northgeorgiawater.org. Printed copies are available by calling 404.463.3261.
