(ATLANTA - November 15, 2006) WSB-TV Channel 2, in cooperation with the Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District has produced a 30-minute special, “Our Water Our Future.” The show, which originally ran early in September, will be rebroadcast on WSB-TV Sunday, November 19, 2006 at 1 p.m. This special is a part of a media campaign with Water Use It Wisely and the Clean Water Campaign.
The Water Use It Wisely and Clean Water Campaigns are cooperative, multi-agency public education initiatives spearheaded by local governments in metro Atlanta, supported by the 16-county Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District and managed by the Atlanta Regional Commission. The goal is to build awareness of water supply and quality issues and solutions in metro Atlanta and empower residents to take action.
“Our Water Our Future” features Atlanta Mayor Shirley Franklin and Water District Chairman Kit Dunlap talking about the challenges we face in metro Atlanta with respect to our water resources. “Local governments and businesses are working hard to manage water carefully and well, and we’re seeing results. By continuing that good work, we will have water to meet the needs of the region today and 25 years from now,” Dunlap says.
The show highlights some of the region’s success stories in reducing water pollution and using water more efficiently. The special concludes with experts Walter Reeves and Kathy Nguyen giving viewers easy-to-implement tips on how to conserve water and protect rivers and streams.
The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District is dedicated to developing comprehensive regional water resources plans to be implemented by local governments in the District. These plans will protect water quality and public water supplies in and downstream of the region, protect recreational values of the waters in and downstream of the region and minimize potential adverse impacts of developments on waters in and downstream of the region. The District encompasses 16 counties in North Georgia: Bartow, Cherokee, Clayton, Cobb, Coweta, DeKalb, Douglas, Fayette, Fulton, Forsyth, Gwinnett, Hall, Henry, Paulding, Rockdale and Walton counties.
